The Auckland Museum is pleased to provide you access to their collection databases.
Records in this part of the database are currently restricted to primary type specimens of the Marine Biology Collections (note: this collection also includes freshwater mollusca and excludes marine plants which are found in the Botany database). The number of records available will be progressively expanded.
You can search the database using scientific names from any level of the Linnaean classification hierarchy depending on how broad or narrow you want your search to be. An initial search can be refined. It's not possible to search for common names (e.g. kina, cockle, sea star).
If there are any particular kinds or groups of marine animals you would like to see records for, and for comments on the database, please contact us on marine@aucklandmuseum.com. This will help us plan for future expansion and improvement.
