Entomology - Primary Types

Basic Search

The Auckland Museum is pleased to provide you with access to their collection databases.

Records in this part of the database are currently restricted to primary type specimens of all terrestrial and freshwater invertebrate animals except molluscs which can be found with the Marine collections.

You can search the database using scientific names from any level of the Linnaean classification hierarchy depending on how broad or narrow you want your search to be. An initial search can be refined. It's not possible to search for common names e.g., giant weta, butterfly, flax weevil, clapping cicada. You can also search on type status e.g., holotype, lectotype, or any key word for geographical locality e.g. Auckland, Waipoua, Kermadec, Fiordland.

If there are any particular kinds or groups of insects you would like to see records for, and for comments on the database, please contact us on entomology@aucklandmuseum.com. This will help us plan for future expansion and improvement.
