- Sergeant Watt was killed when he triggered a booby trap and incurred multiple fragment wounds.
- He was buried at Ulu Pandan, Singapore and his Memorial Flag was presented to his widow.
- Sergeant Watt's widow, Mrs Gael Keighley of New Plymouth, received the New Zealand Operational Service Medal on his behalf from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence at a presentation at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on Thursday 27 November 2003.
