Name: Stanley Street

Origin of Name: Possibly named after Captain Owen Stanley of H.M.S. 'Britomart', who surveyed the Waitemata Harbour in 1841. The first surveyor-general Mathew Felton named Point Stanley after the captain. Stanley Crescent (now Street) was one of the original names conferred by the surveyor general, Felton Mathew, on his original plan for the city.
Notes: Stanley Bay is also named after Captain Owen Stanley.
