Private Robert McCaw was the son of James and Agnes Finnie McCaw, of Knox Manse, Lower Hutt, New Zealand. Private McCaw was born at Winton in Southland. He was a Physical Training Instructor (New Zealand Field Artillery). Prior to enlistment, has was employed by NZ Bacon Company as a clerk.
