- In mid December Cole transferred temporarily to the 3 Canadian Tunnelling Company for one month. (Church, p.192)
- January 1918 Cole was detached to a Sanitation School for two weeks to be taught how to keep his commrades in a healthy state. (Church, p.186)
- 16 May 1918 Cole was hospitalised, suffering from diarrhoea, which developed into enteritis. He was transferred to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 22 May 1918. Cole died of tuberculosis of the lung three weeks later. (Church, p.192)
