- Colin Baker was the son of Stanley Roy and Kathlyn Ada Baker, of Palmerston North, Wellington.
- Flying Officer Baker was the Pilot Instructor on a Wellington which collided with another while taking part in night flying training. Twelve airmmen died in the incident, representing the OTU's heaviest loss of life in a single accident.
