Biographical Notes
  • "Charles Lankey was wounded in action on 21 September near Flers on the Somme with gunshot wounds to the right leg. It was necessary for his leg to be amputated below the knee, and immediate evacuation to England was arranged by him."(Church, p.118)
  • He arrived at No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 28 September 1916 and died one month later from a popliteal aneurysm.
